Biographical or Historical Sketch

Delane Dees Chappell (b. 14 July, 1949) was employed by the Chamber of Commerce of Columbus, Georgia and the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer newspaper from the 1980s through 2000. Ms. Chappell was involved in writing the Columbus Community Overview for the Chamber and collected business, historical, and financial information on many Columbus area businesses. She also co-authored Columbus Celebrates the Millennium: An International Quest with Pamela Baker in 1999. She was married to Dr. William Chappell (September 8, 1948-January 7, 2011), who was the associate dean of the College of Arts and Letters at Columbus State University, as well as a professor of political science.

Scope and Content

The Delane D. Chappell Collection consists of material that she collected while compiling business and historical information on firms, industries, companies and associations in Columbus, Georgia and the surrounding area while she worked for the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer and the Chamber of Commerce from the 1980s through around 2000. Much of the material was used in the writing of the Columbus Community Overviews and her book, Columbus Celebrates the Millennium: An International Quest, co-authored with Pamela Baker in 1999. The folders and the folder names are original to the collection, keeping the wording of Ms. Chappell. 4 boxes (4 l.f.), 49 mini-cassettes 1920s-2000s
