George Holt Collection (SMC 34)

Biographical Note

The Holt family arrived in Columbus, Georgia when Hines Holt, II came here in the 1830s to practice law, later becoming a judge. In 1855 he purchased the Wynn Place from its second owner, John or Henry Hurt.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of three items. The first is a single sheet of genealogical information on the Columbus, Georgia branch of the Holt family, and the second is a photocopy of a letter written by George Holt to Florence, dated August 5, 1909 from “In Camp, 5 miles from Tangiers” describing his activities in Algeria. The third item is two sheets of photocopied and unidentified family photographs. 1900s 1 folder (.l f.l.)
