Organizational Note

The Institute for the Study of American Cultures (ISAC) was devoted to the study of pre-Columbian contact between the Old and New Worlds. ISAC was founded by Dr. Joseph B. Mahan and headquartered in Columbus, Georgia. Its activities consisted of holding an annual conference and publishing books advocating a hyperdiffusionist view.
ISAC continued holding annual conferences after the death of Mahan in 1995. The 30th Anniversary Conference was celebrated in 2003.

 

Scope and Content

The collection consists of records of the organization, including proceedings and papers, as well as various publications, maps, periodicals, and artifacts relating to the organization and its activities. Most of the publications are circulating and are held with the library's main collection.
